Planview donates more than $38,000 to American Red Cross in support of Hurricane Harvey relief efforts

AUSTIN, Texas – September 1, 2017 – In the wake of Hurricane Harvey’s destructive path this week, Austin software company Planview joined other central Texas organizations in deploying funds to support efforts by the American Red Cross to help those affected by the severe weather across coastal and central Texas. An employee match program combined with executive leadership giving brought the overall donation to more than $38,000.

“Like so many central Texas companies, our employees and their families and friends have been impacted by Hurricane Harvey and its aftermath,” said Planview CEO Greg Gilmore. “The American Red Cross is on the frontline when disaster strikes and we wanted to do our part to support their relief efforts in helping our Texas neighbors get back on their feet.”

As many Austinites come together to support this community, we want to share two employee stories that are just a glimpse into the spirit of this city we call home.

Karen Nichols, Planview customer success program manager, volunteered at the American Red Cross main evacuation shelter in Austin, Delco Center. “I worked about 40 hours in three days at the shelter, but what I gave was nothing compared to what I received. Everyone pitched in to help each other. There were no labels, no expectations, just people working together,” said Karen. She recalls meeting a five-week-old and his mom who arrived in wet clothes. The mother wanted to bathe her son and asked for a towel or anything dry she could put on him after his bath. What struck Karen was the mother’s desire to make sure no one else needed the towel and clothes before she would accept them for herself.

Aaron Jayjack, Planview director of cloud operations, helped four-legged victims as he chased Hurricane Harvey along the Texas coast. He transported animals to safety and reunited a dog with his owner after Aaron found “Cash” alone and distressed in Runge, Texas. A few tweets and hours later, Cash was back with his family. “I’ve been chasing storms in Texas since the 1990s. Nothing beats helping the most vulnerable among us, like pets who get disoriented and distressed in the storms,” said Aaron.

The American Red Cross continues to accept donations online. In addition, KUT has compiled a list of additional organizations looking for volunteers and donations to get help where it is needed most. Giving City Austin also shared tips on how to make sure gifts have the most impact.
